Hi, I'm in the process of migrating our company from XP to Windows 7 and am taking advantage of the new folder redirection capabilities of Windows 7. At the same time I'm migrating my users to a new Windows 2008 R2 file server, Windows 7 users go to the new server and XP users remain on the Windows 2003 file server. My Citrix is installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 servers. My folder redirection on Citrix, namely the My Documents redirection for the XP users has been working fine. However, I cannot get folder redirection to work on Citrix at all for the Windows 7 users.
I've checked my group policies and they are all set the same. I'm not sure where to look to determine the problem when logged on to a Citrix desktop. When I open Computer on the Citrix desktop and type: fileserver userhomes$ myusername into the address bar it returns an error that says: 'Accessing the resource ' fileserver userhomes$ myusername' has been dissallowed' Where should I look for this access right? I want my users to be able to access their files regardless if they are working from a local desktop or via Citrix. Thanks in advance, Linn.

Some areas that I can think that may help. If you check the Shell Folders and User Shell Folders keys in HKCU do they redirect anything at all? Do you use AppSense (Could there be a policy conflict)? Does a gpresult /z or RSOP show anything issues wth the processing of the particular policy that redirects.
Is loopback processing enabled/conflicting on the ctx servers? I've also seen an issue in the past where the Folder Redirection CSE were failing, an RSOP or the event logs may show these errors. Regards Sunil. It's tough because I have the Citrix desktops so locked down that I can't run regedit or the cmd prompt to run gpresult. I'm not sure what AppSense is so I doubt we are using it. Not sure if loopback processing is enabled or not but in either case, if that were the issue wouldn't it be affecting all users similarly? I am looking at the event logs on the server and when I log in I see a series of folder redirection messages in this order: Successfully applied policy and redirected folder 'Favorites'.
Successfully applied policy and redirected folder 'Videos'. Successfully applied policy and redirected folder 'Pictures'. Successfully applied policy and redirected folder 'Desktop'. Successfully applied policy and redirected folder 'RoamingAppData'.
Failed to apply policy and redirect folder 'Music'. Failed to apply policy and redirect folder 'Documents'. All of them point to the new server with the exception of the RoamingAppData redirect.
RoamingAppData pointed to the old file server so I found that setting in my group policies and changed it to the new server. That did not help my issue though. Thanks, Linn.
GPO looks fine, as it states Successfully applied policy and redirected folder 'RoamingAppData'. Log on as a test user and remain logged on, also logon as an admin, check in HKEYUSERS (you can find the correct user by looking at each identifier with Classes at the end and selecting permissions). This will help locate your test user. Then check in the User Shell Folders,Ii suspect it will be the old server which points not to GPO but to the processing.
You may have an GPO processing issue, by default it should update every 90 minutes or by a gpupdate /force. You can also run gpresult /s to get the results from a remote machine, Regards Sunil. I've had instances of this before in my environment (XenApp 6, Win7 + WIn2k8R2).
I use the profile management utility to point all the Citrix Profiles to the FileServer as I have 20 farm servers. I simply delete the Citrix profile that is redirected from the servers to the Citrix Folder share i setup on the FileServer. Alternatively you could just delete the profile off the XenApp box/es via Advanced User Profiles. Next time they connect to Citrix (launch an application) it will recreate a new profile. The above is only worth a try if your 100% sure all your folder redirection is working correctly on the local machine first.
I am learning quite a bit about the Windows 2012 environment thanks to a recent server migration. The biggest lesson so far deals with Folder Redirection, and the effects of repeated adjustments to the GPO settings.
Under certain circumstances, folder redirection seems to get “stuck” showing either an old folder path or none at all when the user goes looking for their documents. The Group Policy Results tool seems to confirm that the Folder Redirection settings are not being applied at all for the user/computer profile that is stuck. Frustratingly, I couldn’t find any problem with my Group Policy configuration. No amount of logging off and on, adjusting permissions, or messing with Group Policy seems to have any effect.
In the end, I was able to clear up the problem by running this command: gpupdate /Target:User /Force /Logoff The key here is the Force option, which successfully resets the folder redirection policy for that user profile, and perhaps all the profiles on that particular computer. Problem solved! Windows 8.1, Windows 2012, and possibly other versions are affected. I wanted to thank you for this blog. It is amazing that so often we look for the hardest solution to a problem when something as easy and basic as a targeted gpupdate is the real solution. I too was having an issue at a customer site where we were migrating to a new file server.
Once I created the share for the home folders, I changed the GPO to reflect the new location. When the users with Windows 7 Pro logged into the domain the next morning, their home folders were automatically moved to the new location successfully. However, none of the Windows 8 Pro users worked. I found so called solutions on the internet that ran anywhere from changing the SMB version on the server and workstations to blaming it on an HP issue. This ain’t my first rodeo, so I quickly moved on down the internet highway until I found this blog. I had already tried a gpupdate /force that didn’t work, but targeting this to just the user policies made a lot of sense once I read it.
It has fixed it on every Windows 8 workstation here. Thanks again for keeping it real.
I've set a folder redirection group policy at one of my clients. It works for everyone except 1 user, who has the same permissions structure as everyone else (themselves and me, both full control). A gpresult -v and a rsop.msc both reveal that the policy has been set, but the actual desktop as a user would see it does not show any files. If you go into Windows Explorer as an actual window though, and click Desktop, the redirection is active and shows all the files. I've tried gpupdate, with force, sync, boot and everything like that. And pressed F5 repeatedly, sometimes in rage with the system not working! It is very confusing to both the user, who didn't realise there was other ways to the desktop, and me (the IT admin who has to try and find where it is going wrong).
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be? I've also tried deleting the profile several times.
It works on 1 machine but the rest do not work by the way. I'm at the point where I think it might just be worth offering a Windows 8.1 licence to the client and rebuilding the machine from scratch.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? Thanks in advance for any input.
The (gpedit.msc) is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in that provides a single user interface through which all the the Computer Configuration and User Configuration settings of Local Group Policy objects can be managed. By default, computer and user Group Policy are updated in the background every 90 minutes, with a random offset of 0 to 30 minutes. In addition to background updates, Group Policy is always updated when the system starts. After you make changes to group policies, you may want the changes to be applied immediately without waiting on the default refresh interval above to do so.

If you set group policies using Registry Editor on a local computer, then you may want to update group policy settings on the computer without having to. This tutorial will show you how to manually force an update of computer and user Group Policy settings in Windows 10. You must be signed in as an to update Group Policy settings.
Gpupdate Windows 10

Wed, May 4 2016. Wed, Mar 16 2016 Now that we have a server with a share configured, we’re ready to set up the Folder Redirection in Group Policy. Folder Redirection is User configuration. Because of that, you’ll need to either create a new Group Policy Object (GPO) or edit an existing GPO that is linked to an OU for your users. Go to User Configuration Policies Windows Settings Folder Redirection. GPMC in Windows 7 Showing Folder Redirection Right-click on one of the folder names and click Properties.
In my example, I’ll be using Documents. The first thing you’ll want to set in the Target tab is how you want to redirect folders: Basic or Advanced. If you’re planning on directing every user to your new User share, then Basic will probably do for you. If you have multiple shares for Folder Redirection (possibly for departments or geographical locations), you can choose Advanced and assign specific folders for groups. Folder Redirection Properties Next, you’ll need to determine where you want to redirect the user folders.
In most circumstances, you’ll probably want to use “Create a folder for each user under the root path.” However, you can also use a user’s home directory (if you have that attribute configured in AD), a specific path (for labs or common area computers where every user should share certain folders), and the local user profile (useful if you don’t want users reconfiguring folder locations). Target folder location Type in the name of your server and the path to your Users share. If you used the option to create a folder for each user under the path, you’ll see that your folder structure should be in the format fileserver Users%username% redirectefoldername for each Folder Redirection you configure. Root Path setting Go to the Settings tab. Uncheck the checkbox by “Grant the user exclusive rights to Documents.” If you don’t uncheck this setting, the permissions will be configured so that even Administrators won’t be able to access the files without changing the folder permissions.
Settings Tab Choose the settings for the remaining options that work for your environment and click OK. All you need to do is go to your test system, refresh Group Policy, log off, and log back in. Just be aware that when you run gpupdate, you’ll get a reminder that you need to log out and back in for the changes to take place. In the last post of this Folder Redirection series I will share some.
Cinema 4d download free student information. My IT-admin set up 'folder redirection' within our network. So our folders are synced from/to a central-share, as described here. Because of some custom programs we have. We need the folder for the user to be created using the user's UPN name, instead of their sAMAccountName. The users actually do login using their UPN name, but for whatever reason, the folder redirection technology creates the folder using the sAMAccountName instead of the UPN name. We can't find any options on how to change it from using sAMAccountName to UPN.
IOW, the%username% part of the foldername. We see that value as coming from the sAMAccountName value. We want it instead to come from the UPN value.
Is this possible?
